College of Missions - North Central University

The North Central University College of Missions prepares students to love both God and others, extending God's Kingdom incarnationally across ethnic, racial, economic, gender, and generational barriers by focusing on unreached peoples and the oppressed and impoverished urban and rural poor. College of Missions students gain self-understanding, global awareness, missional passion & strategy, effective research, communication and teaching skills through integration of theory and practice learning as they serve in local and international ethnic communities.

Programs

The College of Missions offers one major: Intercultural Studies and Languages (ICS). Contained within this major are six tracks:

 

  • Business as Mission
  • Children and Youth in Crisis
  • International Development
  • Middle Eastern Studies
  • Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)
  • World Missions

 

These programs of study engage students in one or more of the four Assemblies of God World Missions ministry strategies: reach, train, plant, touch.

 

Specialized ICS minors allow students to gain in-depth international experience as they study abroad for one semester. Each minor consists of 18 credits.

The classes in each track have been handpicked to suit your major and are tailored to the Semester Abroad experience. You will also find information about our philosophy, student groups, faculty, and overseas trips. This handbook is subject to revision, and new versions will be uploaded as necessary. This handbook does not replace your advisor.

 

Semester Abroad

North Central University is committed to giving students the best possible education, and studying abroad is one way to go the extra mile in your college education. The College of Missions offers four semester-long experiences for students looking to immerse themselves cross culturally. These experiences are built into each of our tracks and are taken the spring semester of the Junior year. Please visit the Semester Abroad page for more information on all NCU's offerings.

What can you do with an Intercultural Studies degree?

College of Missions alumni work in a wide range of careers: international & U.S. missions, international education, the local church, urban ministries, not-for-profit organizations, child welfare ministries, and international relief development. Graduate study for College of Missions alumni has successfully included: intercultural studies, TEFL, theology, linguistics, social work, organizational leadership, education, public health, marriage and family counseling and individual counseling.

Internships & Summer Trips

International Fieldwork summer trips are required of all Intercultural Studies majors. Students typically take this trip in the summer of their Junior Year. Please fill out this application and turn it in to the College of Missions Administrative Assistant.

You must have 2 people (other than family) fill out this reference form and mail it to the College of Missions Administrative Assistant.

Student Missions Fellowship

The Student Leadership Team (previously known as the Student Missions Fellowship) consists of students who are motivated to plan, organize, and implement activities within the College of Missions related to promotion and other activities such as student-led prayer initiatives.

Studies Abroad

This application is for those who are interested and qualify for one of the four Semester Abroad programs NCU offers. Please fill out this application in its entirety and return it to Diane Campbell, Director of the Antioch Initative, Liechty Hall 301 dmcampbe@northcentral.edu.

Use this checklist to confirm that you qualify for Semester Abroad and ensure that you have completed all steps neccesary to apply.
