Why study music production live at North Central University?

North Central’s Music Production: Live major will prepare students with the skills they need for a successful career in the live music production and recording industry. Through courses in audio engineering, music production, live audio production, and ProTools, students will perfect the craft of live audio recording, mixing, mastering, and producing. An internship will help them gain real-world experience and valuable connections with pros in the industry. Plus, North Central’s state-of-the-art recording facilities will give students opportunities to practice with the latest performance and recording technology.

Producing Your Passion

In a city that’s home to many famous and up-and-coming musicians, students are in the right place to start their own music career in live production. After four years, our graduates will have the knowledge of live sound mixing, miking, and signal flow as well as the knowledge of video post-production, audio editing, and pro tools. Alongside North Central’s experienced professors, students will get the hands-on learning they need to be successful in the music industry.

Furthermore, students have the opportunity to participate in an internship that will prepare them for real-world experience and valuable connections as they pursue a fulfilling career after graduation. North Central’s graduates have moved on to become audio engineers, audio editors, producers, and audio mixers. We also recognize the importance of a well-rounded education which is why we offer many supporting programs including media production, business administration, and urban studies. Internships opportunities in Minneapolis

Our unique urban location gives students opportunities to establish a career.

Music Production: Live students at North Central have unique opportunities to intern at local recording studios, churches, agencies, and businesses. Internships present new challenges and learning experiences as students prepare for their career after graduation and get one step closer to living out their calling.

Students will be supported, mentored, and coached by their advising professor throughout their internship and have opportunities to reflect on the process. This will give them insights into their passions and God-given talents, and help them pursue a fulfilling career path. Plus, when students finish their internship, they will have an impressive portfolio, experience to add to their resumes, and a network of professionals in the industry who can recommend or hire them!

State-of-the-art facilities

Our McPherson Studios feature the latest technology and recording spaces.

McPherson Studios is North Central’s state-of-the-art recording facility, featuring the latest equipment and technology including a Pro Tools HD system (loaded featuring McDSP and Antares plug-ins) with a Digidesign Control 24 interface, Genelec and Westlake monitors, and a wide selection of microphones and outboard equipment. Our Control Room is a great place to work with comfortable leather sofas and a warm atmosphere. The Studio A recording room is over 1200 square feet with enough room to record a choir, a big band, or an orchestra. Studio A also features a Yamaha grand piano with full MIDI capability. There are two additional rooms when isolation is needed for the session.

Worship Arts Practicum

Students will get studio access to start practicing their craft.

Students will enroll in a Worship Arts Practicum during each semester of their program. This practicum will grant them studio access (once they are done with their core classes) to start practicing with the latest and great recording technology early in their education.

This extensive hands-on training and experience will prepare students to be experts in the studio by the time of graduation.
