Athletics Fall Sports Retreat and Training Camp Schedule Released; Features new Retreat Venue

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- North Central Athletics has released the 2008 Fall Sports Leadership Programing schedule which includes the New Student-Athlete Orientation, Leadership Counsil of Captains & Student Athlete Advisory Committee Training Day along with the Fall Sports Retreat that will travel to Camp Clearwaters (Somerset, Wis.). The pres-season training camp schedule has also been schedule for August 18-22.

 

Leadership activities will start on Friday, August 15 with the LCC/SAAC Training Day. The Training starts at 9am and will feature a trip to Feed My Starving Children to pack meals at that organization's Brooklyn Park, Minn. food packing facility. The day will conclude with the student athlete leaders helping the new student athletes move into their on campus housing and spend time with their new teammates.

 

The New Student Athlete check-in begins at 1pm and runs until 5pm. At 5:30pm the new athletes and their parents are invited to the New Student Athlete Parents Dinner which will feature a chance to meet the coaches and Athletics Department staff. Please see the links below to find you how you can RSVP for this event. At 7pm the returning athletes and new students will meet up for planned team activities.

 

On Saturday August 16 the 2008 Fall Sports Retreat will kick off with lunch at 11am. The department will travel to Camp Clearwaters (Somerset, Wis.) with programming set to begin at 3pm. This new location will provide a meeting hall, a modern kitchen, and cabins to support over 100 athletes, coaches and staff. This year's retreat will allow the athletes to be introduced to New Athletics Director and Men's Basketball Coach Jon High who was instrumental in helping NCU locate the new camp venue. The over night retreat will feature great fellowship, speaking, and vision casting that has proven to be a successful starting point for many athletic seasons. The time at Clearwaters will close with a mini-olympics and then sphaghetti lunch. Activities should allow the athletes to be back on campus by 2pm on Sunday evening.

 

Coaches will encourage their athletes to get a good night of sleep with preseason training camp set to start on Monday. Volleyball, Men's & Women's Soccer, and Men's & Women's Cross Country will begin their two-a-days schedules at that time. Those practices will continue until Friday the 22.
