Men's and Women's Soccer Garner Multiple All-Region awards; Lattu Region MVP

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- The NCCAA North Central All-Region Soccer Teams were chosen by the regional coaches and the North Central Men's and Women's Soccer teams are well represented.

 

The men received two nominations. Senior defender Ryan Wendorf (Raciine, Wis.) and junior defender Andrew Cameron (Brookfield, Wis.) were selected to the men's team. The Rams season finished up with a tough 1-0 overtime loss to top seed Providence College in the regional playoffs last Friday

The Regional Champion Women's team received five nominations including the Regional Most Valuable Player Award. Senior forwards Tonya Johnson (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) and Kalyn Zimmer (Duluth, Minn.) were joined by sophomore defender Emmie McMullin (Omro, Wis.) and freshman forward Jennifer Cline (Green Bay, Wis.) on the all-region squad. Senior goalkeeper Casey Lattu (Columbus, Wis.) was selected as the MVP for her outstanding 2008 season which included six shutouts and a 1.41 goals against average. Every great team is usually led by a great coach and North Central's head coach Jake Smith was recognized as the regional coach of the year. The Lady Rams claimed the region crown after a 9-5-3 season and will travel to Kissimmee, Florida next week to play in the NCCAA DII Women's Soccer National Championship Tournament. NCU earned the automatic bid with a 1-0 shutout of second seed Providence College last Saturday.
