NCU Student Athlete Leaders Kickoff Leadership Weekend with Volunteer Effort
NCU student athletes pack meals at Feed My Starving Children during the 2008 LCC & SAAC Training Day.
BROOKLYN PARK, Minn.-- The 2008 Fall Sports Leadership Retreat began on Friday with members of the Leadership Counsel of Captains (LCC) and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) volunteering at Twin Cities-based charity Feed My Starving Children at their Brooklyn Park Facility.
The day also included some time preparing for the leadership training that will continue with the groups through out the 2008-09 school year and also featured a time slot where the current student athletes helped the new athletes and their families move into their NCU housing. After the new students were moved into their new homes they and their parents along with the returning athletes and coaches attended the New Athlete and Parents Dinner. After dinner the Athletes wrapped up the day by getting together to play cards and board games while taking in some of the Beijing Olympics.
The LCC and SAAC members who participated at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) helped to pack 6696 meals which would be enough to feed approximately 18 children for an entire year. FMSC is a non-profit organization that works specifically with small orphanages, individual missionaries, and relief organizations to help feed children and provide health care services for families all over the globe. Their meals are a special blend of 27 vitamins and minerals, rice, soy beans, and dehydrated vegetables that work as an easily recognized food source for people groups world-wide. These are packed singly through the efforts and time of volunteer groups like NCU. To find out more about FMSC click here to visit their website.
The NCU Athletics Department plans on having all 12 of its varsity sports spend time volunteering at the FMSC facilities during the 2008-09 school year.
The Leadership Weekend continues today with the Fall Sports Leadership Retreat at Camp Clearwaters near Somerset, Wis.
