Fitzgerald Recognized Named All-Region Selection

10/30/07

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.--- Junior Goalkeeper Casey Fitzgerald nas been named to the NCCAA DII North Central All-Region Team for her outstanding 2007 season.

Fitzgerald (Columbus, Wis.) had the most saves in the region this season and was second in goals against average. The junior keeper was known for her demonstrative playing style and strong command over the defense in front of the net. She used a bold attacking style to hold off breakaway attempts often intimidating oncoming attackers into a poor decision or shot.

The All-Region team is selected by the coaches of each team within the region.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.--- The Women’s Soccer program is headed in the right direction under second year coach Jake Smith. Through seven games in the 2007 season, their record does not tell of the vast improvement in overall team play. With a strong young front line, solid talent on defense, and a potential All-Region candidate in net, the second half of the season should give way a potential run at the NCCAA North Central Region Championship.

Junior Goalkeeper Casey Fitzgerald was hobbled all of last season with injuries but recovered fully for the 2007 year and has been a force at net for the Rams. The front line tandem of sophomore Grace Wolfgram, junior Kalyn Maki and leading scorer sophomore Nicole Silvernagel has provided good scoring opportunities. The defense has been bolstered by a healthy Amanda Roloson and talented freshman Lauren Erlichman.

With a 2-6 record at mid season, the team will face all three regional teams down the stretch. On Oct. 1 the Ladies travel to Crown College (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) and then host Providence College (Otterburne, Manitoba) on Oct. 5. The final regional match up will be a season rematch against Faith at home on Parents day Oct. 13. Back on Sept. 13 the Rams lost 4-0 to the Eagles despite outshooting them on the day. The season will finish up at the NCCAA North Central Regional Tournament held at Providence College on Oct 26-27.
