Ministry Service-Learning

What is Ministry Service-Learning?

Ministry Service-learning is an approach to experiential learning, whereby students learn and develop through active participation and engage in activities that address human and community needs together. Ministry Service-learning helps foster civic responsibility, enhances NCU academic curriculum by connecting academic theory with real-world experience; and includes structured reflection [adapted from the Corporation for National Service RFP]. It includes one semester of on-going service on campus, in the community or at a local church (at least 15 hours, approximately 1-2 hours per week).

The MSL Program

North Central's Ministry Service-Learning Program consists of four service projects. These projects are a component of each student’s academic degree requirement. Students must register for the required projects during each semester’s regular class registration period.

Four projects are offered each semester to be completed in succession. The projects are outlined as follows:

  • Prac 201 - Church Ministry Project I
  • Prac 202 - Church Ministry Project II
  • Prac 203 - Church/Community Ministry Project III
  • Prac 204 - Church/Community Ministry Project IV

A degree will not be conferred by NCU until the student has completed his or her program requirements.

What is the registration process?

It is essential that you take the following steps if you wish to receive credit for activities in which you are involved:

  1. Register for Prac 201, 202, 203, 204 during class registration in the fall and spring
  2. Serve at chosen Project Site a minimum one hour per week for 15 weeks in the semester.
  3. Meet the course requirements as outlined in the sylabus
