Current Students

General Housing Policy

The NCU Residence Life Staff strives to create a comfortable living and learning community. Through the development of this community, individual growth will occur which will encourage students to invest in their future communities. Residents will be challenged to integrate faith and experience with social and personal responsibility to present and future communities.

NCU is a residential community by design; therefore, all students are required to live on-campus unless a student meets one of the following:

  • Living at home with an immediate family member
  • Married
  • 23 years of age or older
  • A fifth year student of senior class standing
  • Enrolled in 8 or less credits for the current semester.

Housing Placements

Housing placements are made by the Residence Life Coordinator and are based on the following criteria: a student's previous housing placement ("squatter's rights"), age, and class standing. Housing applications must be received by the designated deadline or seniority and priority for a room are lost. NCU reserves the right to make final decisions on placement for all students.

Housing Qualifications

Students 25 years old or older must petition in writing to be considered for the Residence Halls.

Students wishing to rent an apartment must meet one of the following qualifications:

Wallace Orfield Apartments

  • 19 years of age and 80 accumulated credits
  • 20 years of age and 60 accumulated credits
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Married

Elliot East Apartments

Frequently Asked Questions

Housing Info

When can I apply for on-campus housing?

After you have been accepted to NCU, the Admissions Department will send out a housing packet in early April. Beyond this date a packet will be sent out no later than two weeks after you have been accepted.

What is the Housing Deposit?

A housing deposit of $200.00 ($250.00 for an apartment) is required when the housing application is submitted. Once the student graduates or moves out of on-campus housing the deposit is refunded with interest.

When will I get my roommate information?

Roommate notification will be sent out mid-summer. If the student is arriving in the spring, information is typically sent out late-December. Notification will be sent through the student's NCU e-mail and a copy will be sent to their home address.

Can I move into my room early?

Unfortunately, we don't allow our students to move-in early. Over the course of the summer our housing is used for rental groups and our maintenance crews. We cannot guarantee the room is ready until the date specified on the welcome week brochure.

Some students are required to move-in early because they are involved with athletics or another activity that requires early arrival. You will be notified by that office with specific instructions on when you can move-in.

Things to bring

North Central provides a bed with mattress, desk with chair, dresser, and mirror in each room. Please expect to use the furniture provided in your room.

Should I bring extra long twin bed sheets?

The following halls have extra long twin mattresses:

  • John P. Phillipps Hall
  • Beth Mensing Hall
  • 5th floor of I.O. Miller Hall

All other halls and floors have standard twin mattresses.

What size of refrigerator can I bring?

One refrigerator of five cubic feet in capacity is permitted for every two roommates.

Is wireless internet available in my room?

Currently, you may only access our campus internet by plugging into the appropriate outlet. Wireless internet is available in two community lounges located on-campus.

Can I build my own loft?

Unfortunately, we don't allow lofts in the residence halls. Mensing Hall has lofting kits available for the students who reside there.

Laundry Facilities

How much does laundry cost?

Currently, it costs $1.00 to wash and $1.00 to dry your clothes.

Are the machines coin operated?

The machines run on a card system. The NCU ID card has the capability to store laundry value on it and can be used with the machines. Students may purchase a separate card for $2.00 that can store value on it as well.

Is laundry available on every floor?

Every floor will both have washers and dryers available to students. Residents of Phillipps Hall have a central laundry location on the first floor.

Can I charge laundry fees to my student account?

Laundry card value must be pre-paid by cash only at the central vending machine in Miller Hall.

Who do I contact if the laundry machines are broken?

Please contact the Plant/Security office immediately so the outside vendor can be notified.

Miscellaneous

Where do I store my bike?

The basement of Miller and outside of Phillipps Hall has a large bike rack for permit only bikes. A permit can be purchased for $15.00 in the Plant/Security office.
