Student Guide - Commuter Life

COMMUTER LIFE

The North Central University Commuter Community exists to connect
our off campus students to each other and the greater NCU community.
Commuter students are considered full members of the University
community and will be expected to abide by the community guidelines
listed in this guide. Questions and concerns of commuter students
should be directed to the Special Programs Coordinator.

Periodic chapel services are planned specifically for the
Commuter Community. These are held in various locations on campus
during the chapel hour (11:00 AM) and are followed by lunch for a
minimal cost. Commuter Chapel dates will alternate between Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

COMMUTER PARKING

A limited amount of parking space is available for commuter students on
a first-come, first-serve basis. Commuter parking permits are available
to all commuter students at a cost of $30.00 per semester. This charge
is placed on your student account and may be covered by financial aid.
Commuter parking permits must be applied for on the Security web page each semester. Commuting students wishing to park on campus
overnight must first obtain clearance from the Security office.

WEATHER CONCERNS

Students may sign up for weather related closing notifications at
http://www.kare11.com/weather/emails/schoolalert.  KARE 11 is the official website that North Central uses to convey weather-related issues.  Students may receive notifications of early closures and class cancelations via email, text message or by visiting their website.

Commuters are expected to make their best effort to attend
scheduled classes. If a student is unable to attend classes due to
weather, it is his or her responsibility to contact their professors
regarding their absence.

COMMUTER LOUNGE

The commuter lounge is intended to be a versatile space for all
commuter students. In order to maximize its usability, the following
guidelines have been established:
• Students using laptops or any type of portable technology should
mute all sounds or use headphones.
• Food may be prepared and eaten in the lounge; however, each
student is responsible to clean up after him- or herself.
• Students wishing to store food in the refrigerator must label each
food item. Labels should include both name and date.
• Unlabeled items or items that are left for over one week will be
thrown away. Storage containers will also be thrown away.
• Personal belongings left in the lounge for more than one day will be
turned over to Lost and Found.

Commuting students who chose not to observe the guidelines listed
above or choose to participate in behavior that causes other commuter
students to feel unwelcome in the lounge will forfeit their right to utilize
the commuter lounge.
