Simple Assault

At approximately 1:00am on the morning of January 9, 2009 an NCU student was assaulted by three individuals. The individuals were described as young, Somali males, approximately 12-16 years of age. The group engaged the student in conversation. During the conversation one of the males attempted to punch the student in the face. The student moved, deflecting the blow, and ran from the males. The males ran off-campus. No information on the group of males is known.
Safety tips on protecting yourself:
- Obtain an escort by the Security Department and always walk in groups of three or more.
- Remember that you are in a city and the risk of incidents increase between dusk and dawn.
- Go with your underlying feelings.If you are perceiving a potentially threatening situation try to remove yourself as quickly as possible.
- If held at gunpoint, cooperate as much as possible unless cooperating would place you in greater harm. Do not go with an assailant to another location.
- Be aware of your surroundings at all times. If you feel uneasy, immediately proceed to a more populated area.
- If you are assaulted in any way, be aware of your assailants. Look at their clothing and face, listen to their voice, notice anything about their demeanor that will assist you in later identifying them.
- Be alert. Warmer weather means more people are outside.
