Katie is originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin and moved to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota. After living in the Cities for quite some time, Katie now calls Minnesota her home (though she still can't quite get behind Minnesota sports teams).
Katie finished her undergraduate education in Psychology and in Sociology of Law, Criminology, and Deviance at the U of M and her graduate education in Counseling Psychology at Bethel University. Katie joined the Student Success Center team in 2012. She values authenticity and humor which allows her to approach counseling in a more laid-back manner, creating a safe space that allows people to feel the freedom to be themselves without fear of judgment. An abstract-but-pragmatic thinker, Katie loves collaborating with students to find the true root of their struggle and working to instill lasting change from the bottom-up.
In addition to working part-time as a therapist in the Student Success Center, Katie works at PrairieCare Psychiatric Hospital and Clinics as a Needs Assessment Counselor. Katie's work at PrairieCare includes performing clinical assessment, diagnosis and referral for adults and children and leading psychotherapy process groups with children and adolescents in the inpatient hospitalization program. Katie also has her own private practice, KML Counseling LLC, where she sees clients on an outpatient basis. In 2013, Katie was elected to serve as President-Elect of the Minnesota Counseling Association. She is a professional member of the American Counseling Association
Katie feels immeasurably blessed to be at North Central and to have a front-row seat to watch the Lord at work in the hearts and minds of the students of NCU.
