Pure Worship Institute Coming to NCU
Minneapolis, MN – North Central University is pleased to announce that the Pure Worship Institute (PWI) will be holding a conference on campus June 13-18, 2010. PWI, a division of WorshipCityMinistries, has begun a partnership with North Central that will exclusively target those who are high school and college aged.
PWI was founded by Jeff Deyo, a worship leader, recording artist, and original member of SONICFLOOd, who joined the NCU faculty this past January as a Worship Arts Specialist, and Associate Professor. His vision is to see every musician, singer, worship leader, and band member understand and willingly embrace God’s higher purpose for them as influencers in His Kingdom by living, playing, and singing as skilled, passionate, humble, Spirit-led arrows in His Hand.
The institute works to train the next generation of professional musicians and singers through teaching, modeling, mentoring, and building. It seeks to cultivate in its participants’ hearts an understanding of the enormous responsibility they possess – first as Christians and secondly as those who will influence and shape modern culture through their music and creativity.
The weeklong intensive “mini university” at NCU includes seminars, workshops, jam sessions, listening panels, and worship encounters. Classes are led by Deyo and other NCU Fine Arts Faculty members, and include many special guests. This revolutionary new “school” for bands, singers, musicians, and worshipers integrates a healthy balance of spiritual and practical teaching, designed to train up this generation to love Jesus with their skills and with their lives.
PWI participants will “major” in one of 5 Focus Tracks. The different tracks include a Musician Track for instrumentalists who want to better themselves while learning the tricks of the trade, a Singer/Worship Leader track which is primarily for vocalists who desire to improve their technique and learn how to get the most from their voice, a Creative Track that is geared towards those who are interested in the creative side of music, such as arranging, songwriting, and recording, and an Industry Track, intended for students who want to know more about music industry aspects such as management, booking, record companies, and publishing.
Registration is only $250 between now and May 31, and $300 after that. Optional lodging and meals are included for all six days for additional $175. Those who are unable to attend the full week but would like to attend certain days of PWI now have the option of attending individual days for only $50 per day.
The general public is also invited to attend a Worship Encounter service each night of PWI from 7-9pm (excluding June 15). Each Worship Encounter is free of charge with a love offering being taken. Jeff Deyo will be leading worship with his band June, 13, & 18, and special guest Desperation Band will lead worship on June 16.
