Men's and Women's Basketball Earn Automatic NCCAA Tournament Invite

North Central University Men's Basketball

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- North Central got through the 2011 NCCAA DII North Central Region Tournament with a win over Providence College and Faith Baptist Bible College to earn an automatic berth into the NCCAA DII Men's Basketball National Championship Tournament hosted by Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri on March 8-12.

Friday NCU was tested by regional tournament host Providence College (Otterburne, Manitoba) in a hard fought 71-61 opening round victory over the fourth seed Freeman. After taking the narrowest of margins to the locker room at the half in a 28-27 contest the Rams got 26 second half points from sophomore Nathan Roeder (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) who ended up 34 points on the night to get the win. The 34 points for Roeder equaled a career best and went along with his 9 boards. Senior Levi Kooistra (Brookfield, Ill./Nashua Christian) added 15 points and 9 boards while freshman Bryce Burkman (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) pulled down a game high 10 boards and added 7 points.

North Central University Women's Basketball

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. North Central over came a strong game from second seed Trinity Bible College to earn their sixth consecutive NCCAA Regional Championship with an 58-54 win over the Lions on Saturday afternoon in Otterburne, Manitoba, Canada. NCU will advance to play in the 2011 NCCAA DII Women's Basketball National Championship Tournament hosted by Ohio Christian University on March 8-12 in Circleville, Ohio.

NCU arrived in Saturday's championship game after a pull away victory over NCCAA Regional Tournament host Providence College (Otterburne, Manitoba) on Friday night. NCU established a 42-10 half time lead over the Freeman and eventually claimed a 76-49 win over Providence in the opening round game. Elisabeth Trickey (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) began what was an outstanding tournament for the sophomore guard by scoring 25 points, grabbing 5 boards and nabbing 8 steals. Emily Aleckson (Braham, Minn./Cambridge Christian) added 16 points and 7 rebounds and Jorie Grenell scored 11 points. Christina Goodman (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins ) led NCU with 10 rebounds.
