Rams' Roeder Named Player of Year; Berndt Selected First Team; Grenell & Trickey Harvest Post Season Awards

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--- North Central University guard Nathan Roeder, who led the Rams in scoring and assists, headlines the 2012 All-Independent Men’s Basketball teams announced today by the Association of Division III Independents.

Roeder, a junior from Hudson, Wis., averaged 22.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. He set a North Central single-game scoring record January 17 when he scored 44 points in an 85-77 victory over Crown College.

Joining Roeder on the first team are Andrew Berndt, North Central University; Nick Dinan, Nebraska Wesleyan University; David Louison, St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn); and Jonathan Moore, Finlandia University.

The All-Independent Men’s Basketball teams were selected by the men’s basketball coaches from AD3I member schools.

Institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in 2011-12. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it also will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of eight other sports this year.

Grenell & Trickey Harvest Post Season Awards

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.--- North Central University Women's Basketball was well represented on two major post season awards lists that were released this week. Jorie Grenell and Elisabeth Trickey were each named Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) All-Independent second team on Tuesday. Trickey was then named a second team NCCAA Division II All-American with Grenell being named to the Honorable Mention NCCAA All-American team on Wednesday morning.

Junior guard Elisabeth Trickey (Waseca, Minn.) was named a second team NCCAA All-American and AD3I All-Independents second team following a record breaking year. After her third season in a Rams uniform the junior has one of the best all-around resumes in Rams history. In 2011-12 Trickey averaged 11.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3.9 steals a game. Her steals per game average ranked her in the top 15 in all of NCAA Division III and in just 83 career games she became the NCU all-time career steals leader after recording 9 steals in the Rams regular season home finale on February 18.

Over her career Trickey ranks fourth in career assists, fifth in free throws made, and eighth in overall scoring needing just 14 more in her final season to eclipse 1000. She is also in the top 20 in career made 3-point baskets and rebounds.

This is the third NCCAA Division II 2nd team All-American award for Elisabeth Trickey who was also selected in 2010 and 2011. Trickey was also named an AD3I All-Independents Honorable Mention in 2011.

Sophomore guard Jorie Grenell (Lakeville, Minn.) was named to the AD3I All-Independent 2nd team and was also named an NCCAA DII Honorable Mention All-American for 2012. Grenell was North Central's leading scorer this season with 14.1 points per game while also averaging 3.8 rebounds and 2 assists per game. She was a deadly accurate shooter from behind the three point line shooting over 42 percent on the year leading the Rams in that stats line.
