A WEALTH OF MUSICAL TALENT and insight is found in Dr. Herbert Johnson of North Central University's Fine Arts department.
Dr. Johnson effectively guides musicians in ways they can improve every facet of performing. To this end, Herb leads workshops on classical and contemporary piano performance, music theory, and accompanying skills. Herb has artistic expertise in numerous genres, including classical, contemporary, traditional hymns, Gospel and jazz.
Dr. Johnson has a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the Manhattan School of Music and has over 21 years of experience as a college educator. Herb is a concert pianist of the utmost skill and is regularly called on to perform by regional and national organizations both religious and secular. One of the most exciting moments of his professional career was performing onstage at the 1996 Billy Graham Crusade in Minneapolis and meeting evangelist Billy Graham in person.
In addition to his work with college students, Dr. Johnson is an educator of educators; he regularly leads seminars for music teachers and is a member of the Music Teachers National Association and the Minneapolis Music Teachers Forum.
Dr. Johnson has traveled the world as a missionary and performer in order to spread the Gospel of Christ. In the late 1990s, Dr. Johnson performed on missions tours to Ukraine with the "Kairos" classical music ensemble.
