MINISTRY TRAINING and organizational leadership are stand-out strengths of Dr. Charles McElveen, Urban Studies Specialist at North Central University.

Pastors who want to refine the practical aspects of their ministries will find Dr. McElveen to be the right resource for their needs. McElveen draws on his experiences as a pastor, administrator, consultant, and teacher to direct the training of the ministry leaders of today and tomorrow.

McElveen became acquainted with large organizational projects during his 20 years as a member of the U.S. Navy. On five different occasions, McElveen directed the establishment of medical units on Navy facilities, including four ocean-going ships and the Department of Defense's largest medical center. From the unpacking of stethoscopes to organizing personnel, McElveen was in charge of every detail.

The elements of a church's structure can be just as complex as an emergency room full of equipment, and McElveen specializes in bringing structure to potentially chaotic situations. As a consultant, McElveen offers expertise in the areas of church administration organization, church growth studies, theology for the layperson, and leadership development. Dr. McElveen teaches church leaders an organic approach to identify the unique characteristics of a congregation and helps them plot a spiritual destiny.

From 2000 to 2002, McElveen served as president of Tidewater Bible College in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he also served as instructor and assistant academic dean. During this time he was associate pastor of Azalea Garden Church in Norfolk, Va. in charge of ministry training and discipleship. He has a Doctor of ministry from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Renewal of the church for mission and a master's degree in practical theology from Regent University.
