“In the long term, I believe everyone can put their mark in this world, whether it be big or small, and I believe North Central is the key to mine.” – Derek Burgin ’24;  Inaugural George Floyd Memorial Scholarship Winner

Derek's Story

Diversity outreach is in our DNA at North Central. Our urban setting in downtown Minneapolis has given us a unique perspective since 1930. As a Bible-based and Pentecostal university, we prepare students for global leadership and ministry through top-quality academic programs, and a spirit- empowered community.

As a community of Christian faith, steeped in the Pentecostal practice and tradition, North Central University welcomes the contributions of a diversity of voices as we together seek to fulfill our shared mission.

Sade and Zochitl's Stories

Sade Berrouet smiles sweetly at the camera

“My mom was a single mom for a long time for my brother and I. We were going to make it work, but we had no idea how it was going to work. If I hadn’t gotten the scholarship to North Central, I don’t know how I would have become a teacher.” – Sade Berrouet, 5-12 Education Major

“I grew up hearing that college was not an option for me. When I found out that I was receiving my scholarship, it felt unreal. I was going to get to finish my family’s dream, and that was crazy to me. None of that would be possible without my scholarship.” – Zochitl Contreras, Social Work Major

George Floyd Memorial Scholarship

Act Six Program

The George Floyd Memorial Scholarship provides a way to invest in a new generation of young Black Americans, poised and ready to be leaders in our community and our nation.

North Central is the fourth Minnesota school to partner with Urban Ventures in the Act Six program, which this year will award 31 full-tuition, full-need scholarships in the state.

Far more than a scholarship program, Act Six Twin Cities develops leaders through a simple but powerful, four-step strategy that includes recruiting, training, funding, and supporting the next generation of community leaders.

Thank You!
