At the North Central University Commencement exercises on Dec. 12, 2020, President Scott Hagan announced that the university\u2019s scholarship for children of AGWM missionaries would be named the AGWM Pennington Family Scholarship<\/a>, in honor of Micah Pennington, a member of the graduating class who passed away in January 2020.<\/p>\n

Micah\u2019s parents, AGWM missionaries Steve and Trina Pennington, were present at the ceremony to receive Micah\u2019s diploma. They were moved to tears at the president\u2019s announcement, grateful that their son\u2019s name would be honored and remembered in this way.<\/p>\n

At Micah\u2019s memorial service last January, students and employees stepped up to the microphone to articulate the impact Micah had had on them. Micah was a student who noticed everyone and helped them feel included. He was well known on campus as a member of the NCU Housekeeping team and beloved by those who knew him across campus\u2014students, faculty, and staff.<\/p>\n

Sustain missionaries, support students<\/h3>\n

The AGWM scholarship had been implemented three years ago in response to critical needs observed by North Central University President Scott Hagan, Ph.D. \u201cWhen I heard there were missionaries who were leaving the field because they could not afford to send their kids to college, it broke my heart,\u201d Hagan explained. \u201cWe are providing full-tuition scholarships for all qualified dependent children of Assemblies of God World Missionaries.\u201d<\/p>\n

Steve & Trina Pennington have served\u00a0as missionaries for about three decades in East Africa, living in Kenya and Ethiopia. Steve’s most recent role there was as Area Director for East Africa and the Indian Ocean Basin with AGWM. They are in the process of moving to Lom\u00e9, Togo, where Steve serves as Vice Chancellor of the Pan-Africa Theological Seminary (PAThS) and Trina serves as the AGWM Missionary Representative to the Women\u2019s Ministries of the Africa AG Alliance. According to Steve,\u00a0“The AGWM Africa vision is to see a powerful AG church within walking distance of every person on the continent.”<\/p>\n

The AGWM MK Scholarship Fund was created to alleviate the financial burden of college tuition for children of AGWM missionaries, allowing them to continue the Lord\u2019s work in the field of their calling. The renaming of the scholarship to the AGWM Pennington Family Scholarship serves to honor the life of one \u201cmissionary kid,\u201d Micah Pennington, his family who has faithfully sacrificed and served in overseas missions, and all who serve to bring the Gospel \u201cso that all may know\u201d the redeeming news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
