Camaraderie. Community. These words describe the characteristics and energy brought to campus by North Central University\u2019s first cadre of Act Six scholars as they visited campus on June 22.<\/p>\n<p>The NCU Act Six student scholars spent the day here preparing for a successful start to their college careers. They attended writing and college success workshops developed by the Student Success Center, campus support and connection opportunities with staff from the library, Student Development and Registrar, and a \u201cGet a Job\u201d workshop laying the groundwork for career preparation.<\/p>\n<p>NCU Director of Multicultural Recruitment and Engagement Bill Green was enthusiastic about the cadre\u2019s first day together on campus. \u201cThe day was significant to the message and mission for both Act Six and NCU. Our new scholars felt welcomed and we are excited about their future as scholar and leaders in common unity\u2014\u2018comm-unity&#8217;\u2014at North Central.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Josue Boutouli a 2016 graduate of Eagan High School, is a member of NCU Act Six Cadre 1. Boutouli said, \u201cBeing part of the Act Six program is a privilege. I get to be surrounded by intuitive individuals who give their very best in everything they do.\u201d Boutouli saw value in the preparation day to navigate the ins and outs of college, \u201cSo that way when we get on campus, we can focus on making an impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Making an impact is a core component of the Act Six program, which seeks to develop urban and community leaders to be agents of transformation on campus and in their communities. North Central is the fourth Minnesota school to partner with Urban Ventures in the Act Six program, which this year will award 31 full-tuition, full-need scholarships in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Far more than a scholarship program, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actsix.org\/mw\/twincities\/\">Act Six Twin Cities<\/a> develops leaders through a simple, but powerful, four-step strategy:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recruit and select diverse, multicultural cadres of Minnesota\u2019s most promising emerging urban leaders.<\/li>\n<li>Train and prepare these groups of students in the year prior to college, equipping them to support each other, succeed academically, and grow as service-minded leaders and agents of transformation.<\/li>\n<li>Send and fund the teams to select faith-based colleges in Minnesota on four-year, full-tuition, full-need scholarships.<\/li>\n<li>Support and inspire by providing strong campus support and ongoing leadership development to nurture the young people as they find their vocation and grow into the next generation of community leaders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to their day at NCU, the Act Six cadre has participated in team- and leadership-development opportunities through <a href=\"https:\/\/urbanventures.org\/\">Urban Ventures<\/a> throughout the spring and summer.<\/p>\n<p>NCU\u2019s Act Six cadre will return to campus for Welcome Week and fall semester beginning August 27.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship application deadline for 2017\u201318 Act Six scholars is Nov. 8, 2016.<\/p>\n<p><em>Act Six scholars pictures above (L to R): Josh Rodriguez, Peneal Tiruneh, Josue Boutouli, Matthew Vang, Edwin Quinon, Alexandra Rodriguez.
