Daily chapel <\/a>is at the heart of the North Central student experience, and keeping that heart beating strong is a primary focus for Doug Graham, D.Min., vice president for spiritual life and dean of the College of Church Leadership. Graham says it\u2019s his goal to provide a vibrant spiritual environment that includes dynamic worship and influential speakers.<\/p>\n

Sean Smith makes first visit to North Central<\/h2>\n

This fall, Graham is especially excited about some of the speakers students will get to hear and meet. \u201cEarly in the year we have a special faith emphasis through Spiritual Life Days,\u201d Graham said, \u201cand on September 11 through 13, <\/b>Sean Smith<\/b><\/a> is going to knock it out of the park for our students!\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith is the founder of Sean Smith Ministries\/Pointblank Intl., and has been in ministry for 30 years. He has authored three books, including his most recent, “I Am Your Sign.” His heart burns to see an outpouring of the Spirit rock this nation, and he desires to see the name of Jesus made famous upon the lips of a generation. Smith travels as an evangelist, equipper, and revivalist to stir God’s people to fullness.<\/p>\n

NCU President Scott Hagan, M.A., is eager for the NCU student body to get to know Smith. \u201cI have known Sean Smith\u00a0for over 25 years and consider him to be\u00a0one of the\u00a0finest and most believable\u00a0communicators I’ve ever heard,\u201d Hagan said. \u201cI’m thrilled he is coming to NCU right at the beginning of the school year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlie Self is Moen Chair for fall semester<\/h2>\n

\"Moen<\/p>\n

Coming to campus three times in fall 2017 is Charlie Self<\/a>, Ph.D., who will serve as theMoen Chair for Pentecostal Preaching. \u201cThe Moen Chair is unique to North Central,\u201d Graham pointed out. \u201cThe individuals who serve in this role come to campus multiple times, allowing them to develop a theme or message that carries through not only chapel times, but also in the classroom and other gatherings at which students get to interact with the speaker.\u201d<\/p>\n

Self is the author of three books and is a frequent contributor to the Pentecostal Evangel, Enrichment Journal, The AGTS Rapport, The Missio Alliance web blogs, and other sites. An ordained Assemblies of God minister, he has served as an associate and senior pastor for congregations in California, Oregon, and Washington, D.C. Self is presently professor of Church History at The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Missouri.<\/p>\n

Self will be on campus October 3\u20135, November 14\u201316, and November 28\u201330.<\/p>\n

500th<\/sup> Anniversary of Protestantism to feature Veli-Matti Karkkainen<\/h2>\n

\"500thThe Assemblies of God is a fellowship that is Pentecostal and also Protestant, and October 2017 marks the 500th<\/sup> anniversary of Protestantism<\/a>, begun by Martin Luther in Germany in 1517.<\/p>\n

Under the direction of Allen Tennison, Ph.D., professor of theology, North Central will be marking this anniversary by bringing in Veli-Matti Karkkainen<\/a>, Th.D., of Fuller Theological Seminary, to speak in chapel and at public lectures, October 23\u201325. \u201cKarkkainen is one of the best known Pentecostal theologian in the world,\u201d Tennison pointed out. \u201cHe is unique\u2014a Pentecostal Lutheran, who writes theology in both traditions.\u201d<\/p>\n
