It might seem like it. Even many state universities now cost $25,000 or more per year, when you include room and board. A quality college education isn\u2019t cheap. It <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northcentral.edu\/miami\/\"><i>can<\/i> be affordable, though<\/a>. It\u2019s within your reach. You can find<a href=\"https:\/\/www.northcentral.edu\"> affordable Christian colleges<\/a> that offer exceptional, Christ-centered education.<\/p>\n<p>It may help to clarify what <i>affordable<\/i> means. This is<a href=\"https:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/affordable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <i>Merriam-Webster<\/i>\u2019s take<\/a>: \u201cable to be<a href=\"https:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/afford\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> afforded<\/a>: having a cost that is not too high.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That seems clear enough. But a university that\u2019s truly affordable offers much more than a low cost.<\/p>\n<h2>Find the right school using this three-part definition of <i>affordable<\/i>:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Affordable<\/i> should also mean high-quality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cMost affordable\u201d shouldn\u2019t mean cheap. The least expensive school may not offer what you\u2019re looking for. An affordable university offers a high-quality education in the areas that matter to you.<\/p>\n<p>Quality isn\u2019t just about name recognition or prestige. Focus instead on identifying the schools that are the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/education\/best-colleges\/right-school\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> right fit<\/a> for <i>you <\/i>and your goals. What are you looking for? A traditional, broad<a href=\"https:\/\/www.northcentral.edu\/academics\/undergraduate-majors-and-programs\/core-curriculum\/general-education-core\/\"> liberal arts education<\/a>? A<a href=\"https:\/\/www.northcentral.edu\/christian-and-urban\/spiritual-life-at-north-central-university\/\"> Christian community<\/a> where you\u2019ll learn more about<a href=\"https:\/\/www.northcentral.edu\/academics\/undergraduate-majors-and-programs\/core-curriculum\/christian-studies-core\/\"> your faith<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Of course, these qualities may overlap, and they\u2019re not the only ones to consider. You can get sidetracked, though, if you focus on costs without a clear idea what you\u2019re looking for and which colleges offer quality programs in those areas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">U.S. News and World Report<\/a> provides the most well-known<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/best-colleges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> college rankings<\/a> and can be a good place to start your search. In addition to their national college and university lists, they also rank schools by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/best-colleges\/rankings\/engineering-doctorate-chemical\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> major<\/a>, graduation rate, and more. You\u2019ll find fundamental information on the strengths and weaknesses of schools that interest you.<\/p>\n<p>From there, you can learn more by visiting college websites. Eventually, though, you should<a href=\"https:\/\/www.northcentral.edu\/admissions\/request-info\/\"> contact<\/a> the schools that look like they may be the right fit and, if possible,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.northcentral.edu\/admissions\/visit\/\"> visit<\/a> them. Making a personal connection can often be a decisive factor in choosing a college.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Affordable<\/i> should still mean helpful.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An affordable college takes time to know your individual needs and provides a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.northcentral.edu\/financial-aid\/\"> range of financial aid options<\/a>. Once you know which colleges offer a quality education that fits your goals, it makes sense to compare tuition and expenses. If one school costs $10,000 or even $5,000 less than another similar school, that will make a big difference over the course of four years.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget this factor. If you\u2019ve heard great things about a school, know it has an elite reputation, or visited it and had a wonderful time, you may set your heart on it. That\u2019s not a bad thing, but you should still do a careful cost comparison. You might find another school with most of the same benefits that costs significantly less.<\/p>\n<h2>Recognize when you\u2019ve found the right fit<\/h2>\n<p>This definition of <i>affordable<\/i> probably won\u2019t make the dictionary. Think of it as an application of <i>Webster<\/i>\u2019s definition to your college search. How do you know if you\u2019ve found a college that has \u201ca cost that is not too high\u201d?
