Position Purpose

This position serves to maintain the campus by supervising the department’s student workers and coordinating daily and summer maintenance schedules. This person should lead in performing repairs, training student workers, maintaining an organized shop, ensuring a proper inventory and excelling at customer service within the Facilities Management Department and University.

Description of Duties

Perform Maintenance Tasks – 50%

  • Perform minor projects and hands-on maintenance of university property and equipment
  • Assist with department projects
  • Remove snow and ice from sidewalks as needed

Manage Student Workers and maintenance requests – 20%

  • Review applications conduct interviews and make recommendations for student worker hires
  • Supervise, train and conduct training for all part-time workers on safe and proper maintenance procedures
  • Provide direction and instruction to all student workers
  • Facilitate part-time worker meetings
  • Review maintenance requests and assigns jobs to workers according to their skills and abilities
  • Coordinate campus maintenance and preventative maintenance
  • Create and execute a summer residence hall maintenance schedule utilizing part-time workers to repair vacant student rooms

Manage Apartment Maintenance – 20%

  • Oversee and facilitate apartment maintenance
  • Create and execute a summer apartment turn schedule utilizing part-time workers to repair and renovate vacant units

Department inventory and shop organization – 5%

  • Purchase and assign tools to all part-time workers
  • Maintain supplies, tools and parts to ensure timely completion of projects and repairs

  • Review current inventories and re-stock as necessary
  • Identify and secure repair parts for equipment
  • Organize, clean, and maintain the physical storage of tools and supplies in the department shops
  • Research, locates, and purchase tools and supplies for the department

Manage Department Records – 5%

  • Update department databases to reflect current information including, but not limited to apartment turns, appliances, and preventative maintenance schedules

Job Qualifications

Minimum Education and experience

The position requires three years performing maintenance in a college campus or related situation. Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of computer programs and specifically those designed for management of maintenance requests and scheduled preventative maintenance
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and conflicting priorities
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately orally and in written form
  • Knowledge of proper use and storage of tools and supplies
  • Knowledge of inventory control
  • Ability to diagnose parts needed for replacement.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and climb ladders
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to ensure there is a shared understanding of information
  • Good people and customer service skills
  • Willingness to reside on campus or in close proximity is preferred

  • Exposure to dust, chemicals and extremes in temperature
  • Work in an urban, Christ-centered university environment

Tools and Equipment

Work environment requires the use of PC, telephone, hand tools and power tools 70% of the workday.
