Position Purpose
The assistant director of athletics for internal operations exists to assist the director of athletics in the day-to-day operations of North Central University’s athletic department through administrative oversight and internal communications.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Oversee all areas of athletic compliance management.
- Insure accurate reporting of all compliance related requirements with NCAA, UMAC, NCCAA, and North Central University.
- Oversee academic success monitoring for student-athletes.
- Communicates student-athlete academic concerns to head coaches and athletic director.
- Nominates student-athletes for leadership, service, and academic awards with UMAC, NCAA, and NCCAA.
- Attends mandatory meetings for compliance/administrators with UMAC, NCAA, and NCCAA as required.
- Completes and maintains records of compliance for student-athlete and coach eligibility including eligibility certifications and coaching rules tests.
Be the primary facilitator for parents/student-athletes and sports medicine.
- Create and communicate all appropriate resources to student-athletes and parents regarding sports medicine.
- Engage in conversations with Mayo Clinic as needed on topics of student-athlete/departmental billing concerns.
Engage as primary point of contact with human resources, campus finance, registrar’s office, and facility management.
- Serves as head coach’s primary point of contact for registrar, campus finance, and facility related questions.
- Ensures proper account reconciliation, invoicing, check requests, and bill payment for all external vendors.
- Monitor payroll and vendor payments to ensure accuracy of cost management systems.
- Facilitates healthy working relationship with human resources through upkeep of job postings, onboarding processes, job description maintenance, and account set up.
- Maintains application records and employee contact information for department.
- Oversees facility, transportation, and student-worker scheduling for all practices and games.
Other duties as assigned (to include but not limited to).
- Sends weekly communication updates to all head coaches from athletics.
- Supervision of athletic office student worker.
- Participate in campus interviews, internal working groups/committee meetings, and game management as needed.
Job Qualifications
Minimum Education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree and previous administrative experience required. Collegiate coaching and college student-athlete experience is preferred.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Knowledge of institutional budgets and program budgetary needs.
- Knowledge of managing practical fiscal responsibilities.
- Knowledge of high-school, collegiate, and amateur athletic associations with insights as they relate to recruiting trends and best practices.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Sound communication skills in both one-on-one and group settings as well as written correspondence.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Integrity, dependability, and leadership qualities are required.
- Ability to operate a personal computer.
- Ability to coordinate a variety of tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work well with a variety of diverse personalities.
- Ability to plan, organize, conduct and participate in effective staff meetings.
Equipment and tools
Use of a PC and/or telephone approximately 70% of the time.
Environmental conditions
Position involves exposure to repetitive motion of the fingers, hands, and wrists on a daily basis.
Ability to lift 25-45 lbs repeatedly is required.
Position is located in an urban, Christ-centered environment.
