Ellington Porter to join Fine Arts faculty

North Central University is pleased to announce that Ellington W. Porter, Sr., M.A., will join the College of Fine Arts faculty this fall as Associate Professor. He brings nearly three decades of experience in music ministry and teaching.

Porter was raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, and served as music director at Shiloh Baptist Church in the late 1980s. He spent the majority of his career in California, serving in music and worship-leading roles in several churches, and most recently as Sr. Pastor/Minister of Music at Genesis Church in Sacramento. He is also Adjunct Professor of Music at Epic Bible College and Graduate School.

“I have known Pastor Ellington Porter for many years,” said President Scott Hagan, M.A. “I cannot think of a better addition to the College of Fine Arts. Not only does Ellington possess world class skills as a musician, but he is also a godly and wise leader who deeply loves young people. He brings with him all kinds of new potential for NCU.”

As Porter returns to his Minnesota roots and joins the North Central faculty, he will be teaching primarily in the Worship Arts program. He brings expansive knowledge of a variety of instruments including organ, keyboards, and drums, and is an acclaimed vocalist. Porter has more than 10 recordings, for which he served as instrumentalist, vocalist, and producer. He is also a song writer and arranger.

According to the Genesis Church website, Porter is a trained musician with studies and multiple degrees to his credit, but he does not hesitate to confirm that his greatest and most meaningful training has been within the church ministry. He has adopted the phrase “Church was my conservatory.”

Porter is at present pursuing his Doctor of Worship Studies from Liberty University (VA). He holds a Master of Arts in Music and Worship from Liberty, and a Bachelor of Arts in Ministerial Studies from EPIC Bible College (formerly Trinity Life Bible College—CA).

He and his wife, Tiwana, have one son, Ellington Porter, Jr.
