Business professor selected for leadership program

The Women’s Leadership Development Institute (WLDI) recently selected North Central University’s Latoya Burrell, J.D., as one of 20 women emerging leaders in higher education. Burrell, an associate professor of business, teaches Christian Leadership & Ethics, Business Law, and Introduction to Office Software.

The WLDI is co-sponsored by the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) and Azusa Pacific University. It is targeted towards women leaders across CCCU campuses with various life and work experiences.

A conference in June at the Cedar Springs Christian Retreat Center in Sumas, Wash., launches the yearlong leadership development program. There, Burrell and other leaders will have the opportunity to network and develop individual program goals. Burrell is enthusiastic about the opportunity.

“The WLDI will challenge me and teach me a different way to learn, think, and lead,” said Burrell. “I expect to gain insight that will directly enhance my pedagogy and leadership skills and capacity. I am excited about the opportunity to gain fresh and innovative ideas and perspectives to bring back to the classroom and to the NCU community overall!”

Burrell will have a one-on-one meeting with a resource team member to outline a yearlong professional development plan, followed by an individually tailored shadowing experience with a senior-level leader on another CCCU campus. Learning current research on leadership lessons, case studies, and best practices from within and beyond Christian high education, Burrell will represent North Central University as she continues to build her skills as a leader on campus.
