Rams Men's soccer team wins over Northwestern

NCU Men’s Soccer Milestone Victory

North Central University’s men’s soccer defeated the University of Northwestern-St.Paul, formerly known as Northwestern College, 2-1 on Tuesday, September 13. The Rams victory was the first over Northwestern’s squad since 2003. Assistant Coach George Carr, NCU ’07 graduate, was a freshman on the 20-man roster at that time.

NCU junior math major Joe Kornbaum scored the first NCU goal, thanks to a corner kick by sophomore intercultural education major Isaac Smith. At the end of the first half, the Rams led the Eagles 1-0.

Shortly after halftime the Eagles tallied a goal of their own, tying the game. Freshman business administration student Josue Boutouli scored the game winning goal, his third goal of the season. A strong, defensive effort in the final minutes helped the Rams lock down the 2-1 lead. Sophomore goalkeeper Gabe Hartwig was credited the win, tallying 12 saves for the game.

The athletic department has been making strides forward under the direction of Athletic Director Greg Johnson, who joined the team in the fall of 2015. Johnson was a former Sports Information Director at the University of Northwestern, a position he held since 2007. To stay updated on all athletics, visit ncurams.com.
