Meet Angela Gruber, 2019 Regent’s Scholar

The Board of Regents and Administration of North Central University are pleased to announce Angela Gruber, daughter of Jim and Teresa Gruber of Saint Paul, as recipient of the 2019 Regent’s Scholarship.

Angela Gruber is a 2019 graduate of Roseville Area High School (RAHS) and plans to double major in Marketing and Communication Arts.

At RAHS, Gruber spent four years pursuing rigorous academics and multiple AP classes, and was involved in many student activities, including cross country, yearbook, Student Council, in several subjects, Key Club, DECA, and National Honor Society.

Committed to community service

Community service is important to Gruber, and she commits at least 50 hours per year doing activities such as bagging groceries, raking leaves, and assisting with events. During her senior year, she organized a project called “Empty Bowls” through RAHS Key Club, bringing awareness to hunger in her local community by making bowls and selling them with the option to fill them with soup. Money raised through the purchase of the bowls was given to a local food shelf.

Outside of school, Gruber has worked for St. Paul Parks and Recreation, Home Goods, and a local bakery, and has been a committed member of the Youth Group at Real Life Church in Roseville, where she has served as a student leader for Summer Kids Camp and participated in National Fine Arts competitions.

The value of hard work

Having met several North Central students through her church, Gruber, has had her sights on North Central since early in her high school career. She credits her parents with teaching her the value of hard work and is thrilled that her academic work and activities helped qualify her to be a Regent’s Scholar. When Gruber learned of her selection, she was thrilled. Looking forward to her North Central experience she said, “I’m really excited to be somewhere where Christ is something we have in common.

North Central’s Director of Admissions Bethany Harshbarger expressed enthusiasm about Gruber’s selection for this honor: “Angela has shown amazing involvement and leadership in the communities she has been part of, at school, church, and in her neighborhood. She demonstrates strong faith in Christ and is willing to work hard in all her endeavors. We believe she will thrive at NCU and we’re honored to offer her the Regent’s award this year.”

The Regent’s Scholarship is a full-tuition, four-year scholarship awarded to an entering freshman based on superior academic performance, references, and a written essay.
