The Bachelor of Science in Audiovisual Production program at North Central University prepares students with the skills to launch a successful career in the live music production and recording industry. Through courses in audio engineering, music production, live audio production, and ProTools, you get to perfect the craft of live audio recording, mixing, mastering, and producing. You’ll gain the skills and confidence to lead in a competitive and creative industry.

Why Study Audiovisual Production at NCU?
Our holistic and practical coursework includes music and production theory as well as experiential learning in both performance and production best practices in McPherson Studios. Located on campus, the state-of-the-art recording facility features a Pro Tools HD system with a Digidesign Control 24 interface, Genelec and Westlake monitors, and a wide selection of microphones and outboard equipment. Work in the comfortable and warm atmosphere of the control room or record a choir, a big band, or an orchestra in the 1,200 square foot Studio One featuring a Yamaha grand piano and full MIDI capability.

In addition to learning in professional production studies on campus, audiovisual production students at NCU have unique opportunities to intern at local recording studios, churches, agencies, and businesses. Internships present new challenges and learning experiences as students prepare for their career and their calling after graduation. Students will be supported, mentored, and coached by their advising professor throughout their internship.
Students may choose to minor in Audiovisual Production, paired with another major.

A bachelor’s degree in audiovisual production can prepare you for both technical and communication-related career paths. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employers seeking broadcast, sound, and video technicians usually require at least an associate degree and experience, but a bachelor’s degree could help you advance into leadership roles. Demand for these positions is projected to grow by 1-3%, which is close to the national average and slightly slower.1

Does the audiovisual production degree require an internship?
Yes, all students enrolled in the audiovisual production program at NCU must complete an internship ahead of graduation. Music internships in Minneapolis provide hands-on training with the latest production technology in a renowned performing arts community. Our campus is close to numerous churches and performance venues, and our experienced faculty can help guide you in finding and applying for internship opportunities.
Can I major in audiovisual production without previous musical training?
Yes. That said, previous musical training is not a requirement for admittance to the Bachelor of Science in Audiovisual Production, but students are required to enroll in applied music lessons. Experience in music performance may help you meet the expectations and feel confident in the university-level music courses required in this program.
