Policy Statement

North Central University grants holiday pay to employees for university observed holidays.  Holiday pay for full-time employees is 8 hours and holiday pay for permanent part-time employees is 4 hours at the regular compensation rate. In order to receive holiday pay, eligible employees must have worked their last scheduled day before the holiday and their first scheduled day after the holiday, unless otherwise excused by their supervisor for vacation, sick time, or FMLA leave (paid or unpaid). Temporary and student employees are not eligible for holiday pay. Holiday pay does not count as “hours worked” for the sake of overtime calculation in any given pay period. Employees on non-standard work schedules will be compensated based on the terms of their flexible work arrangement.

Exempt employees who work on a scheduled holiday are not entitled to additional compensation but will be provided time off when the workload permits for the hours worked up to 8 hours.

Non-exempt employees who are required to work on a holiday will receive straight time for the holiday in addition to straight time for hours actually worked. No alternative day off will be given.

Regular, permanent full-time and part-time employees receive pay for university holidays, without any waiting period.

Full-time teaching faculty do not receive holiday pay.

Employees who are on an authorized paid absence (e.g., sick leave and vacation leave) for the last scheduled workday preceding a holiday observance and first scheduled workday following the holiday observance will be eligible for holiday leave on the day of the observance. Holidays occurring during scheduled paid absences shall not be charged against vacation or paid sick time.

An employee on an unpaid leave of absence, except for unpaid FMLA, is not eligible for paid holidays.
