Position Purpose
The Accountant is responsible for maintaining general ledger, budget, and accounting records for North Central University. Supports the Executive Director of Finance with audit, reporting, and analysis. This position offers a hybrid schedule.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
General Ledger
- Maintain general ledger to provide accurate financial information as needed by departments and financial institutions dealing with North Central University.
- Create and enter journal entries
- Review and balance Cashier Receipt batches
- Review and balance Donor Accounting batches
- Review and import Payroll batches
- Monitor account balances
- Provide account numbers and balance information as requested
- Print general ledger reports as requested
- Reconcile receivables
- Prepare various account analyses
- Analyze detailed information by account as requested
- Prepare various audit schedules as requested by the auditors
- Prepare some year-end closing entries
Banking and Cash Flow
- Monitor bank balances and cash flow to provide maximum financial gain to North Central University in regards to wise use of capital.
- Perform financial aid transfers
- Reconcile bank and investment accounts
- Maintain cash balances and perform transfers to investment accounts as needed
- Provide coverage during absences of Accounts Payable Manager
Job Qualifications
Minimum Education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- 3-5 years of accounting experience, with a preference in Higher Ed or non-profit
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- High level of competence with Microsoft Office software
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles as related to non-profit accounting
- Ability to work under deadlines when reports are needed in an expedited manner
- Ability to communicate accounting concepts to non-accounting personnel
- Keen attention to detail
- Knowledge of database software
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to use ten-key by touch
Working conditions and frequency
Environmental Conditions
- Position involves repetitive motion of the fingers, hands and wrists on a daily basis.
- Position involves extended periods of time in front of a computer monitor – approximately 85% of the workday.
- Work environment involves working in an urban, Christ-centered University
Equipment and Tools
- Position requires use of a PC and 10-key calculator approximately 85% of the time.
