Position Purpose:

The Head Softball coach position exists to recruit, develop, and retain student-athletes that fit the North Central University culture, holistically developing each individual in spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, and relational health in order for them to become men of influence who impact lives and glorify God.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Lead the intercollegiate Softball team as head coach.

  • Based on university and departmental mission, effectively recruit student-athletes to fill and maintain a team roster based on NCAA Division III collegiate standards.
  • Develop and retain student-athletes in the five major growth areas (spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, and relational health).
  • Fulfill operational duties to include, but not limited to, practice, game, and facility scheduling.
  • Hire and supervise assistant coach(s)/graduate assistant(s) for program.
  • Create and foster an environment that equips and empowers team members for academic and occupational success.
  • Represent the Softball program at required conference, regional, and national meetings.
  • Oversee program equipment and uniform inventory.
  • Successfully manage annual program budget and revenue generation (program fundraising).
  • Adhere to all mandates and policies as described in the coach’s policies and procedures manual. 
  • Operate in compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Coordinate campus visit experiences for all Softball prospective student-athletes.
  • Develop a strong partnership with admissions and other key departments across campus to help ensure healthy ideation and efficient recruiting practices are utilized.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities, both within the athletic department, and through outside organizations, memberships, and conferences.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and previous coaching experience required. Collegiate coaching and college student-athlete experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of institutional budgets and program budgetary needs.
  • Knowledge of managing practical fiscal responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of high-school, collegiate, and amateur athletic associations with insights as they relate to recruiting trends and best practices.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Sound communication skills in both one-on-one and group settings as well as written correspondence.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Integrity, dependability, and leadership qualities are required.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer.
  • Ability to coordinate a variety of tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of diverse personalities.
  • Ability to plan, organize, conduct and participate in effective staff meetings.

Working Conditions and Frequency:

Equipment and Tools

Use of a PC and/or telephone approximately 50% of the time.

Environmental Conditions 

  • Position involves exposure to repetitive motion of the fingers, hands, and wrists on a daily basis. 
  • Ability to lift 25-45 lbs repeatedly is required.
  • Position is located in an urban, Christ-centered environment.
