Position Purpose
The purpose of this position is to assist in maintaining and improving the appearance and functionality of university facilities.
Description of Duties
- Assist with the general maintenance and repair of campus facilities in order to preserve and maintain the aesthetics, functionality and safety of the campus.
- Complete maintenance requests in a timely manner
- Undertake painting and other aesthetic projects as assigned
- Perform building inspections and complete repairs as assigned
- Assist other full-time staff with campus projects
- Purchase and install parts as needed
- Clean and maintain workshop areas and equipment
- Assist with mechanical repairs and upkeep of department machinery
- All other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Minimum Education and experience
- 4 year degree or trade level equivalent experience
- 2 years of experience in facilities management field
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of building codes, construction standards and materials
- Knowledge of paints, stains and varnishes and their application
- Understanding of basic wall repair materials and their application
- General knowledge of standard and low voltage wiring
- General knowledge of basic plumbing tools, materials, and fixtures
- Ability to perform basic repairs to furniture, windows, woodwork, etc.
- Knowledge of basic hand and power tools
- Knowledge of shop equipment such as a table saw, drill press, routers, etc.
- General understanding of computers and computer software – including Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in order to effectively share information with others
- Availability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime on an infrequent basis
- Ability to use snow removal tools and equipment
- Ability to occasionally work in confined areas
- Ability to work unsupervised for extended periods of time
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds
Working Conditions and Frequency
Environmental Conditions
- Exposure to one or more of the following on a daily basis: Dirt, dust, chemicals and chemical fumes, loud noises, and temperature extremes.
- Exposure to repetitive use of the hands, wrists and fingers on a daily basis.
Tools and Equipment
Use of the personal cell phone and NCU provided computer, telephone, hand tools, power tools and shop equipment on a daily basis. Use of ladders, scaffolds and other similar equipment on an as-needed basis.
