University Appendix
The university asks for a doctor’s note or other medical documentation to understand a student’s condition and their need for a specific accommodation. This information is a key part of the interactive process and helps the university find an effective and appropriate accommodation.
- The university might require a note from a health care provider to decide on an accommodation. This helps confirm the need and understand the type and length of support required.
- A note will not be needed when the need for an accommodation is clear (for example, a student is obviously pregnant and needs a larger desk), has been provided before for the same condition, or for certain guaranteed accommodations like the need for a lactation space.
- Students do not need to share private medical information with their direct instructors. They must give any required notes directly to the campus pregnancy accommodation coordinator (the Title IX Coordinator) to protect their privacy.
